Recent and now former Brooklyn Nets forward LaMarcus Aldridge announced Thursday morning that he is retiring from the NBA due to an irregular heartbeat.
Aldridge made the shocking announcement via social media, saying “For 15 years, I’ve put basketball first, and now, it’s time to put my health and family first.”
The 7x All-Star was signed by the Nets in late March after reaching a buyout agreement with the San Antonio Spurs. In the five games he played with the Nets he’d averaged 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 26.0 minutes per contest. Aldridge boasts career numbers 19.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.0 per game.
